39. My house was rendered 8 years ago by another company, and there's now a small problem but the contractor who did it has gone out of business, is my guarantee worthless?
53. A painting company told me that dry dash render might not be a good idea for my house? Is that right?

External Wall Insulation: This is the simplest and easiest way to thermally upgrade your property or home without the need for the property to be vacant. This will increase the comfort within the property and transfer the appearance of the exterior to a finish of your choice.
Exterior Wall Coating: We offer a range of Smooth and Textured coatings, working with most manufacturers we can spec a system to suit any substrate. These systems have extremely stern production guidelines, which meet the highest standards within the industry.
Render Systems: We offer various systems from dry dash, wet dash, acrylic, silicone, brick slips, k-render, pebble dash, lime, scratch and much more.
Clear Coat Wall Coating: This is a colourless waterproofing solution that is applied to the exterior of the wall, this allows for a waterproofing barrier without damaging or altering the look to the outer surface in anyway, shape, or form.
Damp Treatments: We offer various systems to protect your property from penetrating damp as well as flood protection systems that will reduce the water absorption into the substrate.
If you are looking for a specific product then please call us to discuss your requirements.
For the application of our wall coatings we follow all the necessary steps to ensure that there is no hassle for you, we take care of the job with our six step process shown below:
- All surfaces are applied with a fungicidal solution, once this is applied we then wash the area being treated extensively using our hydro wash system. This high-powered cleaning system totally eliminates algae, moss, lichen, pollutants and carbonation that affect the substrate. Protective coverings are laid around the property so that the entire area and its surroundings are guarded from the debris removed from the substrate during the cleaning down process.
- The entire walls are hammer tested to see if there are blown or defective render. If, during the hammer test, defective render were found, they are removed and are either totally replaced or treated – depending on the extent of the damage – during the system.
- If open cracks are found they need to be compounded in order to return them back to their original format. This is achieved by filling the cracks with a bridging compound, which in turn will prevent them from reappearing after the coating is applied.
- The restoration and repair process to the property usually consist of various aspects like the filling of vents, replacement of various rendered areas, (if applicable) the reformatting of window sills and recesses, removal of hooks, antenna’s, cables, this allows us to format the buildings façade in a way to allow the appearance of a new render system once the coating is applied.
- The sealant process is a major part of the system that is applied on the entire surface of the walls being treated. Such a sealant helps reinforce the micro-elasticity of exfoliated substrate letting it bond properly. Not only does the sealant seal and stabilise the areas being treated, it also helps establish an ideal platform for the top coats to adhere well onto the surface. Take note that all doors, windows and adjacent structures that are not being treated are fully protected.
- The coating is applied using a high-pressured airless spray machine. Two coats are used to complete the system, the first coat functions as a preparatory coating so as for the second coat to properly adhere to the surface and at the same time increase the walls’ durability.
We ensure our members of staff that work on your job not only have the highest level of training possible, but also are always polite and helpful; this ensures you have a relaxing experience when dealing with our company.

Transparent clear coating is another surface treatment we use. To apply this we clean the surfaces, then we check the building to make sure everything is up to standard before the application.

- Coating will last 10 times longer than a regular paint job
- Transforms the appearance of your home
- Protects your house from, mould, moss and even pollution
- We guarantee no chipping, fading, or cracking
- We make sure that no salesman will ever bug you
Remember our consultations and surveys are free, with no obligation to buy.
Anywall Limited is an independently owned company who only specialise in the refurbishment, replacement and upgrading of exterior building facades we don’t do any other work apart from this so we are very knowledgeable in this sector and provide a first class professional service from start to finish.
Yes of course. The outside of your house should be able to breathe just like your skin, therefore all of our wall coatings are micro porous to allow the substrate to breath, but will still stop water from penetrating the surface.
Got solid walls then YES …..
The chances are that even if your property has a cavity the property may still be suitable for external wall insulation. We are not saying that all cavity walled properties are suitable, however a free survey will determine this. We work on traditional and timber framed properties with cavitys as well
We do not take on any work, as we have a minimum size of 60m2 (this being about the size of a front and back elevation for a mid terraced ex council house)
Regardless of your property if you contact us we will be able to give you more information on your specific needs.
We will not take work on for Category A listed buildings or historic buildings.
We will however consider projects involving Category B and C listed buildings, and will take them on to make sure they are fully protected. Category B and C listings, we aim to ensure that we keep the buildings character while fully protecting the building with our restoration.
We also will not work on buildings that are structurally unsafe, or ones that we judge to be dangerous for health and safety reasons. We also refuse the right to take a job on if we feel there is a risk of flooding.
For your safety we will only accept your signature on a contract if our team believe you are not under the influence of drink, drugs, or acting in an unusual manner. This is to make sure you do not sign anything you may later regret.
Under no circumstances do we accept rudeness or aggressiveness to any member of our staff. We have the right to refuse any customers that we deem to be unstable within their conduct. We expect that you treat our staff with the same level of respect that they will treat you with.
Some guarantees are not worth the paper they are written on, what makes your guarantee any different?
Our guarantees vary from 10 years to 25 years depending on the system provided. Some of these have the added benefit of being backed by a third party insurance company, so in the event that the manufacturer or we cease trading you are still fully covered.
We make sure we complete work to the highest standard possible, so you will not have to put your guarantee into place, however, we also know customers benefit from having that peace of mind that only a guarantee can bring.
Always read into the guarantee you receive. We can almost assure you that in your guarantee you have in your masonry paint tin you will find so many get out clauses, that the guarantee is broken when you apply the first drop of paint. Firstly for the majority of those guarantees the paint needs to be applied by an approved manufacturers decorator? Have you ever heard of an approved manufacturers decorator?
Then getting in touch with a paint company and proving that it was their paint you applied can be extremely tricky and it is more than likely your claim will fail, leaving you feeling like you have been ripped off. Paint companies only put those guarantees on the tin to give you an extra incentive to buy the product. Reading into the guarantee a bit more you will also see that you need to apply the paint in a certain way, and if you do not follow this you will void the guarantee.
Also, what exactly are they guaranteeing you against; the majority of the paint companies do not cover you against certain weather conditions, which obviously you have no control over.
Have a look at the paint as well; does it cure penetrating damp issues? The answer to that will be no, standard masonry paint does not do this, but our coating will.
However, we know exactly what job was carried out, as we keep it in on our secure records. Our 10 year guarantee is not a selling point; it is simply there to give you peace of mind.
In theory painting is not difficult right? Well in fact when you think about it is, make sure you consider all of the following points:
- How much are the materials going to cost?
- How much time is this going to take me?
- What equipment am I going to have to buy/hire?
- If I do this job, when I am going to need to repaint?
- Does my house have any pre existing conditions that I have not thought of?
The answers to those questions may go something like this:
- I am going to need a lot of materials, paint, paint thinner, primer, paintbrushes, rollers, roller cages, paint trays, sheets, ladders and safety equipment to name just a few.
- The average house can take 100 hours (of man hours) to paint and that is without the preparation and the clean up.
- If I do not have any of the equipment in question 1, then there are going to be costly expenses.
- Looks like I may have to do the same thing in 2 – 3 years, and that is if I do everything correctly.
- If I come across damp, mould or algae then what do I do?
So yes, while it may sound simple in theory, it is more than likely when you put everything into practice it will not be so straightforward.
Painting exterior surfaces is a skill, and we advise you that you do not take it on, unless you have sufficient experience.
We do not need to tell you that Ladders can be dangerous when used incorrectly, so instead of visiting A&E, how about giving us a call for a no hassle free quotation on 0800 195 7515
Probably the most asked question we come across, but one without a definitive answer, as no two projects we come across are the same.
However, we will give you a free quotation with absolutely no obligations to buy; therefore you have nothing to lose.
We do not claim to be the cheapest company around, but if you are searching for a quality product, with a quality service, then make your enquiry with us. Remember the enquiry does not cost you anything or tie you down to purchasing.
As a company we make sure we listen to you and not talk at or over you. If you are not sure about something we have said, we will be more than happy to explain everything that you do not understand.
With wall coatings, if you go by price and take the cheapest option, it is more than likely you will get a shoddy service, and you will never be satisfied with second-rate work.
When you order with us you might pay more, but is it not better to pay more and get what you want as appose to something you don’t. Bit like going on an all-inclusive holiday, you may get the same flight but when you arrive, there are 2 stars and there are 5 stars hotels, the experience is somewhat different.
We accept all major forms of payment including:
- Credit or Debit Card
- Bank Transfer
Finance (written details are available on request), if this is something that may interest you please contact us.
Our offices are open 5 days a week Mon -Fri. If there is no one directly available to handle your query one of our advisors will take a message and ask the relevant person to call you back at their next convenience.
- CALL US TODAY ON 0800 195 7515
- Fill in your details on the “Contact Us” page.
If you have used the contact us form, then we will call you to find out your specific requirements and all the options available to you.
We will then arrange a date and time (that suits us both), to visit for a survey, which is of course, is free of charge.
We will then specify to you any problems that we find at the property (such as mould or damp etc) and explain how we can go about fixing these for you.
We will show you samples of previous work, to show you the quality you can expect from our service.
The price we calculate is specific to you and will not include any hidden costs or surprises. The price we offer is a fixed price. We do not over inflate the price to start and then start dropping it till you say yes, that’s not our policy.
Of course, and this is why we offer a guarantee to back it up.
Genuine companies like us have seen many time cowboy builders trying to make a quick buck and doing an ineffective job. Therefore, we advise you (even if you do not go with us) to make sure you fully check out the company’s credentials. Many cowboys are infamous for talking their way into a job, with false promises and an amazing price. A reputable company will always provide a specification of works as well as a data sheet of the products used within the system, so make sure you receive this in writing. Another tip is to ask to pay the deposit by debit or credit card, as any decent sized company will be able to arrange this for you, this also validates them as a legitimate company and protects your deposit in the meantime should the work not even going ahead.
For what we offer our products and services are anything but expensive. We are more expensive than a basic coating or painting service, however that’s not what we are about.
Our price depends on a number of factors including:
- Location of your property
- Access to your property
- Size of the property
- Scale of the property
- Existing surface condition (any corrective work required)
- Need for scaffolding around your property
We guarantee to price your project carefully and accurately, and not just offer you a price off the cuff. We do not claim to be the cheapest company you will come across, but we will always make sure your project is completed to a standard that is second to none.
Call us on 0800 195 7515 to find out more or click here to contact us in confidence.
We are able to offer 0% loans and also grants depending on the products you ar looking to purchase.
If you would like further information about the loans and grants available then please call us on 0800 195 7515.
We aim to visit our clients within 5-7 working days from you initial enquiry to supply a survey and quote.
For all external wall insulation projects in Scotland now require a building warrant. This being the case the process has lengthened considerably and can take from 2-3 months from sign up to commencing the work, this changes depending on the workload of the local planning office. For all other work that does not require planning or consent our turnaround is usually less than a month. However, if this is not the case then we make sure we tell you all of the details; we never leave you in the dark, and will keep you constantly updated.
If you are ever worried about a completion date, then your surveyor is your 1st point of contact. Your surveyor will always leave full contact details to ensure you can reach them at all times.
All the following information depends on a variety of factors including:
- Size of job
- Time of year
- Amount of renovation involved
- Level of access
To give you an example, a small house with good access and good weather can take just 3 days to complete for a coating system, 5 days for a render system and about 10 days for external wall insulation. On the other hand larger properties will take longer but we will put more staff to complete your job (to an exceptional standard) as quickly as possible. This is to ensure everything can return to normal (for you) as soon as possible.
One thing that we guarantee is our workers will concentrate on your job until it is finished. That means they will not be going back and forward to 2 or 3 different jobs as well as yours at the same time.
There are some companies out there that will do this regardless of the need for the product. Unfortunately, some companies do not mind as long as they walk away with your money. Some companies will even convince you that there is a problem, when a simple second opinion would show you that there is no problem at all or maybe just a minor quick fix.
We will never sell a product that does not need to be applied. We will also never sell you our services unless we think you need them. This is one of the main reasons why we get such a good customer recommendation. Honesty is ours and indeed the best policy.
We will always tell you if we think your property would not be suited for a coating system, this might be due to the amount of restoration required and instead recommend a render or EWI system as an alternative.
We generally are busier from March to October, however we work all year round for some applications. Please note you job will take longer in the winter months due to limited light hours and weather conditions, however, we always ensure that we do everything possible to complete your job as quickly and effectively as possible. We are always more than happy to give you a timeline for completion, and will also keep you fully updated as we progress with the work.
We offer a variety of products and services including:
- External Wall Insulation (EWI)
- Render Systems
- Wall Coatings
- Penetrating Damp
- Wall Restoration
Contacting us is easy
You can call us on 0800 195 7515 to find out more or click here to contact us in confidence.
We will never compromise any information you give to us. We will never sell or share your information with any third party for any reason whatsoever; your information is always kept in the strictest confidence. That means you will never receive any calls from a third party through information you have directly provided to us.
When you decide to move home, your guarantee is attached to your property and not your name. This means that it is fully transferable to the new owners, when you tell us of any changes. Having your property protected by one of our systems will raise the price of your home, and it will also act as a great selling point to new buyers.
When filling in your questionnaire for your home report, your guarantee should be enclosed in there for your new buyers to see.
The simple answer to this question is our product prevents heat loss. For a start the Coating products we apply to homes is 10 times thicker than a regular layer of standard masonry paint. Our product also has fillers that will protect the substrate from water ingress, and therefore keeps the walls warmer and drier, and in turn keeps the heating costs down.
As we have all been told hundreds of times damp problems can cause health problems such as respiratory problems and headaches. We will not use this as a way to sell to you, but simply to provide you with some informed information, with no obligation.
Surely your products would put traditional contractors like painters and decorators, and even builders, out of business?!
Not at all, our product last for a long time but not forever. Trends change; do you remember stone cladding and how that was supposed to be around forever?
The difference between us as a company and a painter and decorator is they will just add paint to your walls. Any Wall on the other hand carries out a full repair service before we even get to work. If you have any problems then we will fix them. This is one of many reasons why we offer terrific value for money.
Our services may not be for everyone, and therefore, there will always be space for quality painters and builders who use different methods to us. This is why we are in no way looking to put hard working tradesman out of business, but we would like to eliminate the cowboys.
It depends, in many cases yes; however, your surveyor will inform you at the survey if this is required. We will include a price for whatever method we deem to be safest; this will appear in our quotation.
Some other access equipment we use are portable scaffolding, cherry pickers, or in straightforward cases a ladder. Regardless of what we use, we always make sure all of our projects are 100% safe.
PLEASE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE CHILDREN AND PETS, STAY AWAY FROM THE SCAFFOLDING AT ALL TIMES.
If your building is listed or in a conservation area then there is a good possibility that you will need planning permision for any type of refurbishment, however we will always identify this with your local council. For all external wall insulation projects in Scotland you will require a building warrant regardless of the properties listing or its location.
This is one of the reasons why we use this specific product.
STORM DRY WEATHERPROOF SEALER will not change the appearance of your building, this product acts as a barrier against any water penetration into the substrate and inturn keeps the walls dry. We will be more than happy to apply this to a sample area to show you how this works.
We make sure we don’t damage your surrounding areas by using dustsheets for the ground areas, window film and masking tape to cover and protect all areas not being treated. These are applied within the first few steps of the application and in most cases are there till the works are complete.
The EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION SYSTEMS we offer allows the façade of a building to be finished in DRY DASH, WET DASH, SCRATCH, ACRYLIC and SILICONE RENDER. All these systems can be applied in a colour of your choice.
The best method by far to apply any coating is by the use of an airless spray system. When using the old methods of a roller and brush the material are only applied to the walls surface. However with our spray system that’s applied at around 3000psi this allows the coating to be imbedded deep into the substrate and not just onto the walls surface, this in turn gives the coating better adhesion to the substrate. This is something that a roller and brush cant provide.
My house was rendered 8 years ago by another company, and there's now a small problem but the contractor who did it has gone out of business, is my guarantee worthless?
When a company goes out of business the chances of a guarantee being worth anything are next to none. We advice you check every possible avenue including the citizens advice bureau or a solicitor. Also check the paperwork for any third party warranties, which you may be able to claim against. However, claiming back on warranties on useless guarantees is near impossible. We offer insurance back guarantees via a third party insurance company to keep you covered in the event that the manufacturer or our company close for any reason.
We take personal information protection extremely seriously, and we will never reveal any information to any person or company for any reason whatsoever. We will also never sell or pass on your details to any other company for marketing purposes. If you do become a customer of ours, it is your right to ask for all the information we hold about you at any time, including any communications between us as a company and you as an individual.
Of course not, a free survey is free. We will never pressurise you into making a decision. In fact our visits rarely last over an hour, during this time we will not hold a sales meeting with you, as that’s not that we are about. Our visits consist of viewing before and after slides, viewing material samples, and a discussion about your project (which is all informal). In this meeting we will also survey and measure the property to give you a price for the works needing done. It is essential that you tell our surveyor how long you are available for on the day of survey. There is no point for us to come down to do a full survey if you only have 20 minutes available, this way we can arrange a time that suits you better.
Remember, the choice to employ a company should always be yours and nobody else’s, regardless of what some sales persons will have you thinking.
We take on various rendering jobs, from a small cottage to a large hotel complex. If you are looking to have a garden wall rendered then no, however if you are looking at rendering a property then we can offer various systems to do this depending on the finish colour and waterproofing you require.
We have an online quote form on the home page to give clients some indicative costings, simply fill in the form and submit and we will get back to you with a price, however please note that a survey would still need to be done to confirm the online price quoted.
Remember our surveyors will be more than happy to provide you with a free survey.
We do not offer free quotations unless you are the owner of the property. This is due to privacy and legal reasons. If you are in the process of purchasing a house, then when you have closed we will be more than happy to provide you with a free quote.
Most of the time with our services the whole building is done, however depending on the circumstances there may be a few cases where we might take on this work subject to planning.
Yes we do, we are happy to have worked with various companies to resolve many issues for a wide range of clients. Just get in touch as we can assist from a survey to completion.
Yes we offer different type of textured wall finishes including:
We are a market leader on exterior surfaces, so if you have a specific finish or colour that you would like then we are confident that we have the necessary items in place.
We offer all of our textured coatings in a huge variety of colours and finishes, and this will ensure you get the final product that you imagined.
We can arrange the removal of the original render before the new render system is applied. However please note that this is only advisable in some cases depending on how well the render is attached to the substrate below.
If you are not sure about our render removal services please contact us on: 0800 195 7515 for more information.
This is a service that we offer if you are having your house done at the same time. We do not offer this as a stand alone service. Garden walls do not have a damp course or cavity to protect them from damp from below. We do not offer a warranty on any coating or render system that we apply to garden walls.
Our phone lines are open Mon – Fri from 8am till 6pm (including public holidays)
So give us a call for some free advice on 0800 195 7515
We know how important your gardens are to you, therefore we do our upmost to ensure that all areas are fully protected. This also applies to anything else you would like protected, including driveways and lawns. Remember you are in control of this operation and we always listen to what you say.
If you have coating everywhere then the likelihood is a cowboy has carried out your job, as any reputable company would never leave any mess whatsoever.
If (for some reason) you do need to remove a wall coating from a surface here are the best ways to do so:
Remember, as our wall coatings are fully waterproof, you will not be able to remove it with water, so your best choice is to use white sprit, with a cloth and rub it off. Allow the surface to mist over and wipe down with a separate cloth.
For glass surfaces you need to do the same thing, but you may need to remove the paint with a scraper, but be careful not to scratch the glass with the scraper. Paint spots on a driveway are tough to remove, the only way to get rid of them is with a wire brush or a high-pressured hose.
We always ensures 100% cleanliness whilst working and on completion.
Fishponds are protected with a tarpaulin cover, as long as this covers the whole surface.
Covering up your pond is a very serious matter, as if there is no protection, then unnoticeable film would be able to settle on top of the water. This film cuts off the oxygen supply to the fish. Resin based products should never be introduced to any water supply whatsoever. This is another effective way to find out if you are being conned by a cowboy, as they rarely place any protection over ponds.
A painting company told me that dry dash render might not be a good idea for my house? Is that right?
Well the only thing we can say to that is different people have different opinions.
However, one of our surveyors who would completely disagree with that statement heads our team. Remember if a company cannot do the job then they will more than likely try and coax you into thinking what they can do for you is the best method possible. So ask him if he guarantees his outer surface work for 10 years? The chances are he does not, and instead he will be back round in 2 – 3 years applying more paint and taking more of your hard earned money.
Unfortunately any paint, coating or varnish carries some health risks to animals. This is why you must always keep both pets and children away from ANY constructions. Coatings should never be inhaled by anybody.
We always t our staff and our customer’s health and safety as a number one concern.
If you are worried about this, then please contact us on 0800 195 7515 so we can discuss it in more detail.
Yes, it is the law, and we take this extremely seriously. We can provide you with our insurance documents on request. This is another way to check to see if you are being swindled, if an individual or a company is not insured then it is against the law and they should not be renovating your property.
No, we are not limited to just private establishments. We take on many projects such as:
- Government buildings
- Lifeboat and coastguard buildings
- Retail units
If your building is not mentioned above, then please contact us, as we will be able to tell you if we will be able to work on your property.
You should not render over exterior wall coatings, however there are some exceptions to the rule.
Please contact us if you require any further advice on your specific property.
Our prices never have any hidden costs whatsoever. Our surveyors are there to ensure we give you the best price and advice possible.
Our surveyors will issue you with a price after their survey, and this will be the price you pay, (unless there are any changes by yourselves). This price will include; materials, scaffolding (if required) and labour. You will not find a ‘hidden’ charge has been added at any point.
The best system to save heat within a property would be external wall insulation. Insulating your solid walls may cut your heating costs by as much as 40%. Solid walls will allow through twice as much heat as appose to cavity walls.
We can supply and install external wall insulation to various types of buildings from a small cottage to a high rise we cover it all.
We can offer over 3,000 colours, however we offer a range of 8 standard colours, as it would be impractical to list every single colour. This is why we have listed our most popular colours. We will do our upmost to match any colour you can find (please remember that some colours have been trademarked, to make copying illegal, so matching the colour would be illegal).
We will always ensure you are happy with the colours before we start working.
The biggest difference will be the change that will show on the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) within the Home Report. You will see the energy efficiency rating change within the EPC . This will not only make the house more saleable, but will give potential buyers peace of mind that the outside of their property is insulated as well as protected for the remainder of the guarantee.
The straight forward answer to that question is because no projects are ever the same, so putting prices on the website would be worthless. No house has exactly the same specification; some maybe close but never the same. Remember our free survey will have you a price at the end of the visit, or if you prefer try our online quote for some indicative pricing.
As we have said before there are exceptions to the rule, but in the majority of cases, no we cannot.
The rough guide generally is if you require work on less than 50 square metres of wall then we cannot help you.
If you are unsure on your circumstances then please do not hesitate to contact us on 0800 195 7515, and we will be more than happy to consider each circumstance individually.
Yes we can offer to send out a paper brochure at your request, we can also send you an electronic brochure via email.
The choice is yours!
Yes our coatings cure all damp forms. They also cure mould, algae growth and green walls.
Remember this also falls into our 10 year guarantee. So you will have no more damp problems to worry about for least another 10 years.
This is more than likely to be rising damp which is moisture that has come up from the ground level . We can cure this problem, within the restoration of a coating systems however depanding on the substrate will depend on the treatment required.
Also to be considered is condensation dampness that can apear when moist air meets a colder surface, windows, frames, surrounds etc.
Full details can be provided at survey.
We hope you have found the answer that you require, remember if you have not then you can always contact us, or even suggest that we add a question and answer to this section.
